Encouraging Social Inquiry
Welcome to the European Sociological Essay Olympiad (ESEO)! Established in 2019, ESEO has evolved into a leading annual competition that unites secondary school students from across Europe to examine sociological ideas through essay writing. Created by dedicated sociologists and educators, our goal is to nurture critical thinking and sociological insight by providing students an opportunity to engage meaningfully with social issues. Participants are invited to explore complex sociological topics, enhancing their analytical abilities and promoting original perspectives on areas such as social structures, inequalities, and cultural transformation. We invite you to embark on this journey of intellectual discovery and growth within the social sciences!

2025 Theme : AI, Bias, and the New Europe
The 2025 theme of EUSEO invites participants to explore how artificial intelligence both reinforces and challenges social biases within European public institutions. As AI shapes decision-making in sectors like healthcare, education, and policing, this theme asks students to examine whether these systems can advance social justice or risk deepening existing inequalities. Essays should engage with case studies, sociological theory, and ethical debates surrounding AI governance in Europe.
